Do You Need Anger Management?

Anger management is not just for crazed maniacs or disgruntled executives. Learning how to manage minor and major irritations is something everyone needs to do. You may want to start by obtaining general anger management information and progress to enrolling in an anger management class. But first you need to recognize classic symptoms of uncontrolled rage that will alert you to the need for anger management.

Everyone loses their temper at times. There is no shame attached to getting upset when the dog has an accident on a freshly scrubbed carpet or a subordinate fails to complete a needed report for your one p.m. meeting. But if you find that you react in extreme ways, it may be time to consider anger management.

Anger Management – When Anger Turns to Danger

Do you raise your voice when things don’t go your way? Some people who are normally mild-mannered turn into yellers or screamers during a conflict. It can happen suddenly, where one moment you are self-controlled and soft-spoken, but the next finds your voice several octaves higher and many decibels louder. Your vocal tone and pitch, along with the words that come out of your mouth provide key indicators of whether you are a prime candidate for anger management.

Another symptom category to keep in mind when monitoring your mood is body language. Your fists may clench, your jaws tighten, and your muscles become tense as your ire begins to build. The next time this happens at home, head for the nearest mirror and study your profile. You may see things like bulging eyes, a frowning face, and a frozen posture. Conversely, serpent-like eyes and a frozen expression, coupled with a pale complexion, may suggest the need for anger management assistance.

Looking beyond the physical, it is also a good idea to seek others’ opinions about whether your temperament might benefit from anger management training. Some may suggest anger management exercises you can do on your own at home, perhaps while engaged in meditation. Others might advocate anger management counseling with a licensed, professional therapist, or anger management classes that you can work into your schedule.

You also may want to consider the consequences of any potential anger management problems you might have. For example, have you ever been written up at work for a problem stemming from your failure to practice anger management? Has your anger impacted a serious relationship in a negative way, whether it is with a spouse, child, parent, sibling, friend, or romantic interest? Has a family member or friend suggested that you need the help of anger management?

Anger is a healthy emotion that enables us to express dissatisfaction or disappointment with something in our lives. But when it becomes out of control, this personal irritation needs to be trained to remain behind wholesome boundaries. Is an Anger Management Program Right For You?

Well, it has finally gotten the better of you and now you have landed yourself in a predicament. You had a case of road rage, spousal rage or simply blew a proverbial gasket and went off on a tirade against other people.

The cops were called and now you find that managing anger on your own is not an option. You were handcuffed, a ticket was written and now you have to make an appearance in court and a judge will likely order you to take an anger management program. Congratulations for losing your cool and providing a great example for others.

Hopefully, you have not let your anger go too far. You really may want to think about how seriously the law takes anger aggression. Murders have been committed over less than an improper lane change. Anger management courses are filled with people who did not think they had a problem.

Most anger “addicts” believe that they are in the right. This usually is a very, very misaligned perception. But you can manage anger by attending a course about anger management. You will be surprised to learn what your triggers are, how to resolve conflicts peacefully and how to be more assertive.

Aggressive people cannot be doormats for other’s but may only be able to assert themselves through anger and aggression. It may seem a bit silly to think of an aggressive person as being dominant but it may not be the case and they can still find themselves trying to manage anger in their lives. Just remember: there are times to be assertive and times to be aggressive. You must know the differences between the two.

There are certain triggers that seem to set some people off. It may be the morning commute with all of the traffic jams and other bad drivers that is setting you off. You become irritated on the drive and by the time you get to work you are in a foul mood.

An anger management program can help you deal with managing anger and the triggers that can cause you to go into a rage. Sometimes you have to just let the situation go since you cannot control the actions of others. Just tell yourself, “It could be worse. Maybe I’ll find a different, less congested route.”

It may feel like you are making a mistake and you feel that you do not have a problem if you are forced to enter an anger management program. Take the time to listen what the therapists and counselors are saying. Talk to others that have gone through the program. Being involved with the anger management group is the first step to healing your body and your mind.

An Alternative Healing Approach For Anger

One of the greatest destructive forces on this planet is something that is occurring inside almost of us is suppressed anger. Suppressed anger stops you from accessing the energy and power of you. Another perspective to the cognitive approach of anger management this article explores the energy dynamics of the body and how it holds anger in us for years.

Suppressed anger can be a debilitating force in out lives. When we decide not to allow or be present with our anger we contain it inside us by creating a defensive position to the undesired emotion. “That was horrible, I do not want any of that in my life!” The avoidance or judgment that it is bad or wrong is the beginning of creating a defensive barrier to make sure that the circumstance does not happen again. Unfortunately it encapsulates the energetic memory so it cannot leave on its on accord.

We perpetuate that suppressed energy by feeding it more energy/anger in a variety of manifestations such as: resentments, depression, control, worry, guilt, expression of anger and more. It addition these concealed energies are the source for much of our aliments, pains, sickness, depression and addictions in our body. It is an energetic maze of suppressed memories. How much more energy you would have for you if you were not consciously and unconsciously struggling against the anger within you?

Our present day-to-day anger feeds the old suppressed anger that is underneath our current traumas. If you have ever thought that your resentments, mistrusting thoughts or fears seem to have a mind of their own like they pop up without any reason. There is some truth to it. Our oldest wounds are still hidden within us and they thrive by unconsciously stimulating us to recreate a dilemma that feeds our older anger. The payoff for these old wounds is that they energetically stay alive by feeding off our present day angers.

For example, a person may have been severely punished by their overly critical mother during their childhood. As an adult they may harbor huge resentments to their mother yet they may say something like, “I have dealt with those issues. I have explored hours on end of the history of how my mother hurt me. I am at peace with it.” Yet in their life they may be slightly depressed, have outburst of anger that is hurtful to others and/or mistrusting of others. They are generally fine but become triggered to some of the above behaviors from time to time.

The issues have been explored intellectually but have not addressed the body’s memory of the experience. If we can relive a part of the experience then feel it in our body we begin to get in touch with our body’s awareness. Most of us have avoided this all of our lives because we thought that feeling this intensity in us would bring back the pain. It is quite the opposite we begin a process of really letting it go. It also teaches how to be present with anger. An very important aspect to reliving the anger is not to judge it, allow the experience of it be in you nurturing that part of you that is still in the trauma of the past.

When we break down suppressed anger to its most basic/primal level we see that it is only energy. In my Access Energy Transformation class “Knowing Your Anger, Claiming Your Potency” or in private sessions we open the wounds and allow us to be present with the energies of our suppressed angers. It is an exploration in a gentle, vulnerable way and using energy clearings of Access Energy Transformation the anger leaves permanently.

What happens when our deepest suppressed anger is gone? A weight is lifted and many of us experience a lightness that we have never known before. Awareness that has been blocked by the anger shows up in our lives in ways such as: intuitive or psychic abilities, creativity, joy, inner serenity and more energy. We become more of the embodiment of ease, joy and glory. Receiving is easier than ever before as suppressed anger cuts out so much of what we can have in life.
